These containers are used to encourage my students to use appropriate behaviors as well as bring back their homework everyday. When they do these things, they get to put money in their container. At the end of every week, they get to count the money they have collected and buy something from my classroom store. I have found that using this system motivates my students and helps them regulate their behaviors and work discipline. They love being able to buy things from the store. They are more actively engaged in my classroom because they want to earn money for their containers. It has also created an environment where they encourage each other to get more money so that they can earn classroom rewards by pooling their money together. It has been a great system that also allows them to practice counting money!
Developing extraordinary is what I am striving to do in both my personal life and as an educator of special education students. I believe we all have the desire to make ourselves better both personally and through our work. I hope to share my thoughts and others on ways to develop extraordinary within ourselves and those around us every day.

Sarah, do you use real coins or fake?
What a neat idea. I am sure it builds responsibility with your students to return their homework more frequently. I think it's great you've found a reward system that works so well and that your students seem to really be engaged with.
Shelly - almost all of the coins we use are real. However, I do have a few fake ones thrown in because I ran out of real ones at a time that we needed certain coins. My students love to earn their money, and I have had to add more coins several times throughout the year because they are doing a better job at earning the money!
Thanks Kelsey! They really do love it, and it has been quite motivating. While I am not always a proponent of offering rewards for things, without this system, I am not sure I would ever have homework returned.
