I have been using this work system binder with a student since the beginning of the school year. She has thrived with it. The system works by having something in each folder pocket for her to do. When she is finished with the task, she moves the number to the side of the binder. She knows how much work she has to do and what needs to be accomplished.
With this system, we spend much less down time. Everything is ready and she knows what to do after each task. We avoid behaviors that we encountered in the past because of transitioning from one activity to the next. It saves the precious time this student needs for her learning. When she reaches the done label, she knows that she can take a break. This work system binder has provided her with independence as well as structure. I use it during direct instruction as well as during her independent work time. It is easy to change when a situation might change the schedule. Using this binder has given way to less behaviors and more learning.

Wow, I love this idea! Such a wonderful idea for students that struggle not only with behavior, but with work completion as well. I like that it allows the student to visually understand how much work they need to complete during the day while at the same time promotes confidence as they are able to move the numbers once they've completed that task. I also like how all of their work goes in a separate 'done' pocket in the binder and in a finished work bin along with all of the other students' work. This allows the teacher to easily review that students work without having to search for it! Thanks for sharing this idea! :) I think this would be beneficial for many of my students!
Love this idea! Such an organized way to have your student work on their daily assignments. I also like how there is something specific to do when your student gets done with one task; such a great idea. Great idea to build the responsibility and structure with this student and to build independence with her work. Any time something leads to less behaviors and more learning, I'd classify it as a major success! Awesome!
Thanks for your comments! I would strongly suggest creating a similar system if your students can benefit!
Great ideas for younger students with behavior issues. Thank you for sharing. The pictures are worth a hundred words and make your ideas easier for another person to implement. Great job!
